Sustainability is more than a buzzword that invokes thoughts of recycling and buying organic. It means changing the way we live, not just at home, but at work, at play, at school. KCI maintains a staff of accredited professionals familiar with USGBC’s LEED, WELL, EnergyStar, Passive House and Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure’s Envision certification systems. Our experience follows the project lifecycle from planning through construction for both facilities and infrastructure. Projects have been completed for government, utility, telecommunications, institutional, industrial and commercial clients. KCI also works with government and industrial clients to resolve contemporary environmental issues, manage health and ecological risk, and help reduce financial liability. Services include:

Our sustainable design approach is holistic in nature, within the confines of a client’s budget and schedule. We have experience working on all levels of LEED-certified facilities, verifying Envision awards, planning and managing construction for green streets, and designing Net Zero Energy buildings. Sustainable design involves assessing the long-term impacts of a project on local infrastructure capacity or using natural energies such as solar, wind, geothermal cooling, whenever possible. Our team recognizes the importance of low impact design (LID) features that minimize runoff, maximize retainage, and reduce demands on the public treatment system.  In an integrated manner, KCI addresses sustainability through each project phase – planning, programming, design, construction, as well as management and maintenance, resulting in economic prosperity, environmental protection, and social equity goals for the built and natural environment.
