In the pursuit of transforming a 20-acre site into an environmental education campus, the Loxahatchee River Environmental Control District (LRECD) contracted KCI to provide master site planning.
Our team performed surveys, site analysis and inventory, created concept designs and worked with LRECD to realize a master plan that captured their vision. Given the site’s historical utility functions, improving water quality became a top priority, and water treatment played a crucial role in shaping both the master plan and the site features.
Our proposed site remediation involved the creation of a wetland over the existing lake to cap sediment, facilitate stormwater filtration and eliminate invasive plants. In addition, we incorporated various elements to enhance recreational and educational activities, including an environmental engagement center, an amphitheater, indoor and outdoor classrooms, a boardwalk, a fishing pier, and a boathouse. To facilitate board approval, we developed an animated video that effectively communicated the master plan to the LRECD staff. Now complete, the master plan stands as a testament to LRECD’s vital role within the unique local environment, while also promoting stewardship among residents and visitors.
