After a tragic homicide in a remote wooded area along the Ma & Pa Trail, Harford County engaged KCI to design and implement a comprehensive video surveillance system.
This system covers nearly two miles of the trail, focusing on isolated sections to enhance security. Cameras are strategically mounted on poles for complete visual coverage of the trail and parking lot, with each pole requiring an optical fiber connection for network access and a power circuit. Through multiple trail walks, our team assessed the terrain and line of sight conditions to plan pole locations, using GPS pins to develop the most cost-effective design.
Our Communications Infrastructure team worked closely with BGE to design the three locations required to provide power along the trail and leveraged longstanding relationships to accelerate the electrical deployment schedule. The team also implemented several custom designs to meet project specifications and future needs. With the new surveillance system in place, the project ensures safe access to the Ma & Pa Trail, allowing the Sheriff’s Department to redeploy resources to other areas.
