The US 441 Corridor Widening project was recently recognized with an American Council of Engineering Companies’ Georgia Partnership for Transportation Quality (GPTQ) Preconstruction Design Award.
This award, presented in the NEPA, Environmental Protection, Preservation, Restoration and/or Enhancement category, honors a project that exemplifies exceptional planning and design expertise, efficient collaboration, and the use of innovative solutions to enhance the permanence of Georgia’s transportation system. The recognition was presented to KCI’s Georgia team at the 30th annual Georgia Transportation Summit. Kerrie Boyette, PE, and Andrea Benson, CE, accepted the award on behalf of the project team.
To encourage economic growth and improved transportation in Rabun County, KCI worked with the Georgia Department of Transportation to reconstruct and widen approximately 7.5 miles of US Route 441. The team provided design, environmental assessment, and impact mitigation services during the initiative’s progression. Careful planning was critical to accommodating environmentally sensitive areas along the corridor and the team’s comprehensive expertise proved invaluable to the project’s completion, leveraging knowledge in both strategic design and environmental planning. The roadway’s expansion is projected to foster growth for local commercial opportunities, as well as enhanced safety and travel efficiency.
