The Design-Build Institute of America recently honored the Renewable Water Resources Memorial Garden project with a 2024 Southeast Design-Build Project Gold Award in the Special Structures and Landscapes category.
The project was recognized during a ceremony at Kiawah Island and David DePratter, PE, was present to accept the award on behalf of KCI.
KCI, along with Harper General Contractors and specialty contractor Waterspirit, designed and constructed a memorial garden with elaborate water features on the campus of the redeveloped wastewater treatment plant in Greenville, SC. The team worked to identify and mitigate any potential hinderances to the project, including locating underground utility lines, collaborating with construction technology teams, utilizing drone maps for irrigation concerns, and coordinating construction activities. The garden features a waterfall that utilizes reclaimed water from the Mauldin Road Water Resource Recovery Facility as well as a stone tribute to the many commissioners throughout the utility’s history, transforming the area into a source that educates visitors about the process of creating clean water.
