KCI is pleased to announce the inaugural graduation of the firm’s new Field Technician Training Program.
The four-week paid program is designed to provide on-the-job experience while preparing participants for a full-time position within KCI’s communications infrastructure, construction inspection, subsurface utility engineering, power, and survey practices.
Hosted at KCI’s National Training Center in Largo, Maryland, this program offers non-degreed candidates an opportunity to build a career in the AEC industry. Throughout the 100-hour program, class participants learn about KCI while gaining the technical and work skills needed to be successful in field technician positions throughout the firm. Training in topics such as writing, communications and time management enables their success in a business environment while a hands-on technical curriculum is designed to familiarize entry level trainees with the job opportunities that exist in the industry and the day-to-day expectations of those roles.
“Attracting and retaining a sustainable workforce is a challenge facing many businesses, and part of our strategic plan is to make a concerted effort to devote time and resources to develop talent. This program not only benefits the industry but also provides life-changing opportunities for people looking to launch successful careers.”
– Nathan J. Beil, PE, D.WRE, Chairman of the Board and CEO
KCI advertised its new training program at career fairs hosted at Prince George’s County Community College as well as on-site at the firm’s new center. The first class of the Field Technician Training Program received more than 20 applicants, eight of which were accepted. Participants in the new training program were required to have a high school degree and the accepted applicants were taken through a comprehensive curriculum designed specifically for the on-the-job skills necessary for their success.
Following the completion of the four-week program, all eight trainees graduated and were offered full-time positions at KCI featuring competitive wages, comprehensive benefits, growth potential and opportunities for ownership through the firm’s employee stock ownership plan. A signing day event was held in August at the National Training Center to celebrate their achievement and commitment to the program. Candidates will be placed throughout KCI’s geographical footprint.
The National Training Center officially opened this past summer and features a classroom, conference room, offices, and a technology center. Conveniently located near the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, the facility’s location was strategically placed in close proximity to a bus stop and metro station, providing ease of access through multiple modes of transportation to the center. In addition to the Field Technician Training Program, KCI’s comprehensive use of the center includes internal and external training sessions aiming to continuously develop our staff and help our clients augment their internal workforce capabilities and improve their in-house technical proficiency.
