KCI’s Freedom Road Widening and Traffic Improvements project was recognized by the Mid-Allegheny Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) with a 2024 Outstanding Highway Engineering Award.
The honor was awarded during an organizational dinner meeting and Rob Nuss, PE, was in attendance to present on the project and accept the award on behalf of KCI.
To accommodate increased traffic volumes in Western Pennsylvania, KCI was contracted to design a construction plan for the widening of a one mile stretch of Freedom Road from Commonwealth Drive to Haine School Road. The project, funded by a Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant, included preliminary engineering, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) clearance, right-of-way plan preparation, utility coordination, site surveying, final design, and other engineering services. Through leveraging innovative techniques and the expertise of KCI staff, the project successfully came to fruition under an expeditious 18-month schedule.
