Northeast Transmission Line CMAA Award

CMAA Recognizes Houston’s Northeast Transmission Line Project

December 11, 2024 | Awards

The City of Houston’s Northeast Transmission Line project was recently honored with the 2024 Construction Management Association of America Houston Chapter’s (CMAA Houston) Project Excellence Award.

The recognition, awarded in the Greater than $100 Million Water/Wastewater category, was formally presented during CMAA Houston’s annual Hard Hatters Gala. KCI’s Denis Atwood and Shweta Shyam, alongside representatives from Houston Public Works, were present at the gala to receive the honor on behalf of the project team.

To enable transmission of a new surface water supply into Houston’s drinking water system, the $450 million, 16.5-mile Northeast Transmission Line was constructed using 54- to 120-inch steel pipeline, the majority being 108-inch. Throughout the six-year construction phase, KCI provided construction program management for the waterline, providing direction to the CM&I teams, tracking the completion of program budget and schedule progress, and providing documentation to ensure consistent quality across all projects. Due to the massive size of the program, construction was split into 13 separate projects to allow for multiple contractors to perform work simultaneously across the region. Our team regularly visited the project sites to complete aerial inspections and drone flight video recordings to assess progress and keep the City and stakeholders informed of its status. Now complete, this project is leading the way to sustainable water sourcing in Texas for years to come.
