The Brandywine Highway Maintenance Facility project was recently honored by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Baltimore Chapter during their 2022 Project Achievement Awards ceremony.
The project won both a Project Achievement Award in the Government: Between $5-$15 million category and the Project of the Year Award. James Wilson, PE, Donna Wilson, Heather Hartman, and Mike Miller were present to accept the awards on behalf of KCI.
In the summer of 2020, the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation began construction on a state-of-the-art highway maintenance facility in Brandywine, Maryland, to replace a deficient storage yard and greatly expand the resources and responsiveness of county services. As the project site location is a critical element in the Department’s Snow Operation plan, it was essential that snow plan resources be in place prior to the start of the winter weather season. This required a partnering and problem-solving attitude to demolish the existing facility on an accelerated schedule to deliver the 10,000-ton capacity salt barn and associated site access to address the winter weather. Additional challenges came with working during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The KCI team, using cloud-based reporting, documentation and digital imagery through drone flights, was able to keep all project stakeholders and county managers informed about project progress without unnecessary site visits in accordance with the county’s COVID protocols.
