The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Tennessee recently honored KCI’s Sawyer Brown-Todd Pries Roundabout project with a 2021 Engineering Excellence Award in the Transportation category.
For many years, the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) has wanted to complete a roundabout project in Nashville’s Bellevue neighborhood. The existing four-way stop was inefficient and problematic for the increased amount of vehicular traffic the area was experiencing. KCI was tasked with evaluating the feasibility of new intersection designs and worked with NDOT to create multiple options, leading to the innovative idea for a mini roundabout. Our team’s design utilized the footprint of the existing intersection to lay out the Sawyer Brown-Todd Pries roundabout, lessening the impact of construction while greatly reducing the cost of implementation.
