The American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia (ACEC Georgia) recently recognized multiple KCI projects with Georgia Partnership for Transportation Quality (GPTQ) 2020 Preconstruction Design Awards.
The Widening and Reconstruction of SR 92/Lake Acworth Drive US 41/SR 3/Cobb Parkway to Glade Road project was honored as the Grand Prize Winner as well as in the Highway Design category, and the MARTA Summerhill Bus Rapid Transit project won in the Planning and Design of an Alternative Mode Transportation Facility category. The awards will be presented during the Georgia Transportation Summit this fall.
WIDENING AND RECONSTRUCTION OF SR 92/LAKE ACWORTH DRIVE US 41/SR 3/COBB PARKWAY TO GLADE ROAD
After conducting extensive public outreach with various stakeholders, the project team helmed the design for a roadway widening in the city of Acworth to accommodate pedestrian usage, offer recreational activities, lessen traffic congestion, reduce accident rates, improve flood conditions and create a more aesthetic environment. KCI provided initial survey with our Riegl VUX-1 mobile LiDAR unit and extracted visible features throughout the area into a point cloud for planning and design.
MARTA SUMMERHILL BUS RAPID TRANSIT
To create a direct connection for buses between the MARTA rail metro system and the Atlanta BeltLine multi-use trail, designers studied traffic flows and gauged user preferences to develop route options that met regulatory requirements and were flexible enough to adapt to potential future improvements. Our team performed survey services and utilized mobile LiDAR during the preconstruction phase.
