Bayne Smith is a senior vice president and transportation south market leader. He has more than 30 years of experience in transportation planning, design, operations and maintenance in both the public and private sector. Bayne spent 15 years of his career with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) where he served as GDOT’s Assistant State Traffic Operations Engineer, ITS Program Manager, District 1 Engineer, and Director of Field Operations.
Bayne earned bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and math/physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Georgia, respectively. He is a registered professional engineer and is a professional traffic operations engineer. Throughout his career, Bayne has been active in a number of technical societies including serving as past president for the Georgia Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, a member of the board of directors for the Intelligent Transportation Society of Georgia and the American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia. In 2014, he was honored with the Institute of Transportation Engineers’ Carl Bevins Outstanding Engineer award. Smith currently serves on the Chair of the University of Georgia College of Engineering Advisory Board.
